What Are Cyber Competitions?

Cyber competitions challenge participants' competencies in a wide range of areas including penetration testing, forensics, and cryptography. Most competitions use a capture-the-flag (CTF) format in which competitors obtain flags by solving challenges and submit flags to score points

National Cyber League (NCL)

Competition Overview
NCL features challenges in a Jepardy-style competition that cover Open Source Intelligence, scanning, password cracking, cryptography and more!

Collegiate Cyber Defense (CCDC)

Competition Overview
CCDC is a "Blue-team" competition in which students work to familiarize themselves and then defend the operations of an existing "commercial" network infrastructure. Throughout the competition time, a "Red-team" will be attempting to disrupt the network and take down the network services.

Collegiat Pen-Testing (CPTC)

Competition Overview
CPTC focuses on real-world penetration testing and mimicks a realistic engagement. In this competition, students take on the "Red-team" role as contracted pen-testers.

Competition Overview
CyberForce's competition includes cyber-physical systems, kidelike anomalies/constraints, and actual users of the sytem as the Department of Energy expects students to protect critical infrastructure focued scenarios.

Nevada Cyber Club typically pays for competitions registration fees (such as for NCL) and travel fees (such as for Wicked6 or CyberSEED) on behalf of its active members. Active membership is determined by past competition participation and meeting attendance.
